This weekend the girls and I went to a Leader/daughter retreat with the girl scouts. Myself and a few other great ladies were on the planning committee and it was cool to see everything unfold. We left Friday afternoon and returned around noon Sunday. We decorated for the party shared some great food, learned some quilting, not my forte btw, and met some cool people. I really enjoyed seeing Alana jump right into her project and going at it with all her might. I was very proud of her. Emily, I was proud of her too because as much as her little heart wanted to be running around with the other girls, she was patient enough to finally finish her pot holder, with some extra help from Mom.
At the end we had to say what our favorite part was and what we appreciated about our daughters concerning being their leader. Mine was as above for favorite part. I had to thank the girls for their patience with me, their great ideas and their willingness to have me as their leader, not just as mom but in public with others watching.
I can see how some see their role as leader as separate from their 'normal job description.' I can't really define that difference. No matter where I am or what role I have, I am always their mom, their leader, their friend, their adviser and more. At the retreat, we reminded ourselves, that we are not doing girl scouts for us, but for them and that we need to remember that our duty is to our girls first. All that we do in planning and teaching, is done for them.
I am glad that I can do this for my girls. It takes a lot of time, and patience and so much out of me, but just like homeschooling, it is so worth it!
I wanted to take a moment to give a shout out to all those that were praying for us. Against all odds, weather, terribly uncomfortable beds, noises, and crazy days, Alana and I were headache and (back) ache free. It was so wonderful and I was blown away by God's grace. Thank you friends and family.
Back to reality:
Now, we are doing laundry, or should I say, I am doing laundry and the neighbor boy happens to be around today, so they are planning outside. I am trying to catch up on my little games. Have a great week!
